Druk American Shito Ryu Karate Do (DASRKD)

Druk American Shito Ryu Karate Do (DASK) was formerly known as Shito-Ryu Karate Association of Bhutan (SKAB) and Bhutan Karate Federation (BKF). DASK has its roots in Nepal, while its founding leaders were living in exile as refugees. It is a hard earned martial art of hundreds of Bhutanese karatekas who are now residing in various countries in Asia, North America, Europe and Australia. Despite critical circumstances as refugee, Sensei Raney Rai, who was inspired by prominent Bhutanese karatekas, Senpai Shyam Pradhan, Senpai Talman Thapa, Senpai Dhan Rai, and Senpai Chatra Rai, began his karate journey in 1990. In the fall of 1992, Sensei Rai started the first dojo at Beldangi (1) refugee camp and later Sensei Tika Rai joined the team to start the dojo at Khudunabari camp that later on spread to five other remaining camps. The dojos were launched primarily with the prospective objectives of youth engagement, instilling discipline and supplementing the co-curricular lacking in the camp at the initial phase of the camp establishment.
Bhutanese karatekas participated in various regional, national, South Asian & international tournaments representing the Bhutanese refugees in Nepal after its official recognition with Nepal National Karate Federation. Read More…
